Antonio De la Cruz, MD Memorial Fund

Dr. Antonio De la CruzNew Latin American Scholarship Endowed

In August 2009, AAO-HNSF created the Antonio De la Cruz Memorial International Visiting Scholarship fund in honor of Dr. Antonio De la Cruz, a past President of the Academy and Foundation who passed away suddenly on July 31, 2009. Dr. De la Cruz was an internationally renowned physician who made significant contributions to the specialty.

In consideration of those he has touched and those who have benefitted from his roles as colleague and teacher, we aimed to build a fund that exemplifies his dedication to education and internationalism. Helping a Latin American otolaryngologist participate in an observership and attend our Annual Meeting & OTO EXPO is an objective that would truly have resonated with Dr. De la Cruz. As such, we set a goal of $50,000 to endow this fund and develop a long-lasting mechanism to support many emerging careers.

Today, we are very pleased to announce that we have achieved this goal. In just three short months, due to the efforts of our committed membership, we are able to make this scholarship fund a reality. We are very grateful to all of our donors who made this possible. We would like to extend a special thanks to the AAO-HNSF international community who played a central role in this campaign. Five of our international societies made substantial gifts that were critical to our success. Our donors amplified their support of this campaign by quickly spreading the word about what we were trying to accomplish.

We know that this is an appropriate tribute for an exceptional leader who was taken from us far too soon. Your gifts help Dr. De la Cruz’s name to live on and his sudden passing to have a positive impact. It is a significant statement about the effect he had on so many.

Although we have achieved our goal to endow this scholarship fund, we are still accepting donations. To support the memorial fund, please phone Julie Wolfe, Senior Development Associate, at 703-535-3717, email jwolfe@entnet.org.
