The Academy and its Foundation: Making a Difference for the Specialty and Patient Care
The Academy, its Foundation, and thousands of Academy members collective efforts can be felt from the professional coders in the clinicians office to the excellent surgical care a patient receives from their up-to-date, highly trained otolaryngologist—head and neck surgeon.
For more than 100 years we have continually promoted the delivery of outstanding ear, nose, throat, and head and neck patient care through research, education, and humanitarian efforts. Our work in these areas include:
- A highly-cited monthly journal with the latest peer-reviewed articles, case reports, and concise presentations of new instruments and medical devices, as well as articles describing the complications and side effects of new drugs. Complimentary Journal to resident members.
- A public outreach and relations program, with resources developed by leading experts in the field, that educates the public about how to best care for their ear, nose, throat, and head and neck health.
- An annual meeting for practicing otolaryngologists and residents that boasts some 500+ instruction courses, 90+ workshops, peer networking, and an exhibit hall with more than 300 vendors.
- Awarding over 300,000 CME credit hours through more than 750 different learning opportunities each year, with more than 3,000 annual subscribers to the popular Home Study Course.
- A robust research initiative that provides more than $650,000 in research grants funding annually, has led five office-based clinical research studies, and has made major contributions to the body of evidence needed to support the practice of evidence-based medicine.
- Free and low-cost educational opportunities and information resources developed to assist young residents as they begin their careers in otolaryngology—head and neck surgery.
- A domestic and international outreach program that encourages humanitarianism by providing financial resources and information for those interested in providing care to underserved populations.
- A member-only program reviewing expert witness testimony for ethical guideline compliance. If you believe in working for the best ear, nose, and throat care, please consider making a gift to support our mission today.
