The Holt Leadership Award is awarded annually to the Resident or Fellow who best exemplifies the attributes of a young leader—honesty, integrity, fairness, advocacy, and enthusiasm. The Award recognizes exemplary efforts on behalf of the Section for Residents and Fellows of the AAO-HNS/F for the promotion of the missions and goals of the association.
Nominees are brought forward annually from the Section for Residents and Fellows to the AAO-HNS/F Executive and Finance Committee with final selection of the Awardee. The Award, a check for $500 and a plaque, is presented at the annual General Assembly of the Section and the Awardee is noted at the Annual Meeting Opening Ceremony.
This award is supported by an endowment from G. Richard Holt, MD, MPH, former Executive Vice President of the Academy.
Recipient: Jacob D. Steiger, MD
In 2004 Dr. Jacob D. Steiger was elected to the position of BOG Governor for the Section for Residents and Fellows (SRF) and served as chair, then immediate-past-chair of the SRF between 2005 and 2007. While serving on the SRF, Dr. Steiger instituted a Resident Representative program to identify points of contact at each of the residency programs throughout the country. Dr. Steiger’s honors include the Carniol Award for Research in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, a $5,000 Research in Otolaryngology & Allergy Development Grant, an AAOHNSF resident travel grant to the 2005 annual meeting, and a Research Distinction in Otolaryngology award from the University of Miami School of Medicine. He is a member of numerous professional societies. An author of many clinical articles, he has also participated in several research studies. Dr. Steiger is regularly involved in public service, devoting his spare time to charitable events. His contributions to the Academy and his distinction as a young leader have earned him this year’s Holt Resident Leadership Award.
