Have you ever lost your voice? If you have, you'll know how frustrating it is to function in our everyday lives, when we can't make a sound. The aim of this awareness day is to promote the importance of us all having a healthy voice.

We use our voices to communicate with each other - socially and in work or school. We also use it to laugh, cry, sing and even scream, which can be very helpful in a dangerous situation.

Every year on April 16, otolaryngologist—head and neck surgeons and other voice health professionals worldwide join together to recognize World Voice Day (WVD). World Voice Day encourages men and women, young and old, to assess their vocal health and take action to improve or maintain good voice habits. The American Academy of Otolaryngology—Head and Neck Surgery has sponsored the U.S. observance of World Voice Day since its inception in 2002.
