Background and Criteria for Eligibility
In an effort to build support for advocacy efforts among otolaryngology residents, the AAO-HNS’ Board of Directors approved the Resident Legislative Awareness Initiative in 2005. In response to this initiative, the Board of Governors Legislative Representatives Committee created the Resident Legislative Advocacy Award, which is presented each year at the Academy’s Annual Meeting to the most legislatively active resident over the past year.
To be eligible for the 2008 award, residents must:
• Have attended the 2008 Joint Surgical Advocacy Conference
• Be a member of the State Legislative Contact Network (SLCN) and the ENT-Congressional Advocacy Network (ENT-CAN)
• Enroll fellow residents in the legislative advocacy networks
• Actively participate in the AAO-HNS’ state and federal advocacy efforts using the Academy’s online Advocacy Center
The AAO-HNS encourages residents who meet the award’s criteria to apply for the Resident Legislative Advocacy Award. Become a physician advocate and participate in the specialty’s legislative programs today!
For more information and an application, please contact Matthew L. Evans, State Legislative Assistant, at 1-703-535-3792 or mevans@entnet.org. Applications for the 2008 Resident Legislative Advocacy Award must be received by September 1, 2008.
Workshops held in cities nationwide will help otolaryngologists, their staff, and other healthcare professionals code correctly, learn risk reduction strategies, and organize business systems.
