Awards

Distinguished Award for Humanitarian Service
The President presents this award at the Opening Ceremony to an Academy member who is widely recognized for a consistent, stable character distinguished by honesty, zeal for truth, integrity, love and devotion to humanity and a self-giving spirit. The awardee is an outstanding example and model to emulate for a life dedicated to a nobler, more righteous, and more productive way for the human to live as an individual on this earth. The awardee is well known for professional excellence and has demonstrated professional dedication by the giving of professional skills freely, and without desire for personal gain or aggrandizement, to those in this world who cannot otherwise, physically and financially, receive them.

Jerome C. Goldstein, MD, Public Service Award
The Jerome C. Goldstein, MD, Public Service Award recognizes members for commitment and achievement in service, either to the public or to other organizations, when such service promises to improve patient welfare. The awardee will be honored during the annual meeting Opening Ceremony

Presidential Citations
Presidential Citations recognize individuals selected by the president for their outstanding contributions and dedication to the Academy and Foundation. During the annual meeting Opening Ceremony the following individuals will be recognized:

BOG Model Society Award
The Model Society Award recognizes societies exhibiting effective leadership, instituting Academy programs, and advancing the Academy goals through active participation in the BOG. Eligible societies must have all three BOG representatives appointed and attended two of the last three BOG meetings. Applicants are reviewed on: submission of Fall and Winter biannual reports; demonstration of local legislative activity; development and implementation of new member recruitment program; distribution of a newsletter to society membership highlighting BOG activities; and holding at least one scientific and/or socioeconomic meeting for members each year.
Recipient: New York State Society of Otolaryngology

Holt Leadership Award
The Holt Leadership Award will be awarded annually to the Resident or Fellow who best exemplifies the attributes of a young leader—honesty, integrity, fairness, advocacy, and enthusiasm. The Award will recognize exemplary efforts on behalf of the Section for Residents and Fellows of the AAO-HNS/F for the promotion of the missions and goals of the association.

Honorary Lectures

John Conley Lecture on Medical Ethics
The John Conley Lectureship on Medical Ethics was established in 1987. The 20-minute lecture is dedicated to the subject of ethics and is presented during the annual meeting Opening Ceremony.

Neel Distinguished Research Lectureship
The Neel Distinguished Research Lectureship was established to disseminate information regarding new developments in biomedical sciences to the otolaryngology community. This lecture is given during the annual meeting as a special feature of the Translational & Basic Research program.

Eugene N. Myers International Lectureship on Head and Neck Cancer
Established in 1991, the Eugene N. Myers International Lectureship on Head and Neck Cancer was endowed by Leslie Nicholas, MD, in honor of his nephew, Eugene N. Myers, MD, Past President of the AAO-HNS. Dr. Myers is known for his dedication to management of head and neck cancer and his interest in international medicine.

Howard P. House, MD Memorial Lecture for Advances in Otology
Howard P. House, MD’s name stands out among those viewed as legends within our specialty. A passion for sharing knowledge through research and education is the reason that the House family and the AAO-HNS Foundation have partnered to honor Dr. House through establishment of a lecture and to ensure that Dr. House’s desire to share knowledge on a global plane continues. Established in 2008, this memorial will provide for the creation of a lecture on otological advances to be held during each Annual Meeting & OTO EXPO.

The Howard P. House Memorial Lectureship honors a member who has had a distinguished career in advancing hearing science through research and education to improve quality of life.
