The ENT Advocate - November 11, 2016

Healthcare Priorities of President-Elect Trump
With the election of Donald J. Trump as the 45th President of the United States and Republicans maintaining majorities in the U.S. House and Senate, efforts to “repeal and replace” the Affordable Care Act, a cornerstone of the Republican platform, will top the list of healthcare priorities. The proposal will likely mirror a framework crafted by Speaker of the House Paul Ryan.

Lame Duck Push to Reauthorize EHDI
Congress returns from its extended recess on November 14 to convene a brief “lame duck” session. The AAO-HNS and others in the hearing health community are committed to ensuring reauthorization of the Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (EHDI) Act (S. 2424) in the U.S. Senate. PROJECT 535 key contacts, as well as ENT Advocacy Network members in targeted states, will soon receive instructions regarding how to contact their U.S. Senators with a coordinated message. Stay tuned!

Preparations Underway for 2017 State Legislative Sessions-Volunteers Still Needed!
The AAO-HNS State Tracker program has grown to include more than 130 volunteers covering 43 states. However, more volunteers are needed, especially in Alaska, Idaho, Mississippi, Nevada, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Utah. No experience with state legislatures? Not a problem! The Academy’s staff will be there to guide you through the process. Our first State Trackers conference call will be held December 14 at 8 pm EST, so now is the time to contact to sign up or learn more!

PROJECT 535 Needs YOU!
As the dust from this week’s elections continues to settle, the AAO-HNS already is preparing for the 115th Congress. In addition to the Academy’s overall advocacy efforts, PROJECT 535 volunteers help reinforce the Academy’s message by establishing one-to-one relationships with federal elected officials. Currently, 54 percent of the 535 U.S Congressional and Senate districts are covered. To help further strengthen our collective advocacy efforts, sign up today or contact for more information.
