As an aspiring academic Otolaryngologist, I was honored to serve as the SUO delegate this year during which I gained insight into how program directors and The Academy improve our education process. I’ve learned that improvement comes not only through educational curriculum changes, but through implementing wellness programs, updating asynchronous education formats, and recruiting future colleagues by expanding diversity and inclusion and going beyond the USMLE. The experience I’ve gained communicating these SUO initiatives to residents will allow me to successfully translate information from SRF and the Academy to resident representatives. As the next Information Officer, I will stimulate communication between the SRF and residents, prioritize resident well-being, and continue to demonstrate the impact the AAOHNS has on developing our future careers in Otolaryngology.
