Why are you interested in the YPS position? What do you hope to accomplish in this role?

Member-at-large is responsible for working with the YPS programming committee on YPS sponsored scientific program submissions at the AAO-HNS annual meeting and BOG meeting. I have significant experience with panel submission at annual meetings, having submitted 1-3 panel proposals annually since 2017. I have focused on topics of significant interest to young physicians, including coaching/mentorship/sponsorship, diversity and inclusion, and personal/professional finance including educational debt management. As your member-at-large, I will work to ensure the YPS promotes exciting educational content for 2022 and help YPS members propose content that will be accepted for presentation.

What in your background suggests you will be successful in this position?

Since 2017, I have had four panels that I submitted accepted and presented at annual meetings. The panels I submit appeal broadly to AAO-HNS members and are collaborative efforts between YPS and other sections and/or committees. Drawing on this experience, I have worked with other young physicians on their submission applications to increase the chances of acceptance. Finally, in my role as past chair of the section for residents and fellows, I have planned section meetings including a guest lecturer discussing physician wellness.

What do you think this position can do to improve mentorship of Young Physicians in the AAO-HNS?

At the 2021 Annual Meeting in LA, I am moderating a panel on coaching, sponsorship, and mentorship aimed at women otolaryngologists and young physicians. As a member of the WIO leadership development and mentorship committee, I will make YPS mentorship a collaborative effort. I will continue to promote our YPS mentor award to recognize mentors who have made an impact on YPS members.
