I have been a member of the AAO-HNS since 2002 and have proudly served on various committees to support the Academy’s mission. Since 2015, I have been actively engaged in the Women in Otolaryngology Section. First, as a means to network with like-minded women which has evolved into a purpose to support and advance women in otolaryngology and engage our colleagues across the organization in this effort. As a member of the WIO Program and Awards Committee, I have leveraged my roles on the AAO-HNS Program Advisory committee to assist with submissions and to promote topics pertinent to women in our field which has entailed partnering and collaborating with members of other groups within the organization and negotiating on behalf of WIO. I am most proud of my role in facilitating the documentary interviews for the WIO Video Archive Project which provided a historical perspective on the Section and the challenges many of our female trailblazers faced to have a seat at the table. My contributions to WIO have culminated into being elected as a Member-at-Large for the Governing Council and selection as the WIO Historian. As a member of the Governing Council, I have gained a different perspective on the essential role our Section plays to the AAO-HNS. I would like to continue in our mission to increase the interests of young women to become otolaryngologists, advance women otolaryngologists as leaders, acknowledge and support their achievements and engage our Academy members. My affable personality and exceptional communication skills have been key to effectively organizing and collaborating with diverse teams. My successes as a leader are also due to an innate talent to recognize gaps and the task-orientation to work diligently to close them. These skills among others will serve as useful tools to successfully lead the WIO Section.
