Do I need prior leadership experience to apply?

How competitive is the selection process?
The program accepts 20-30 participants per cohort to ensure an optimal learning environment and meaningful peer connections. Do I need my institution’s approval to participate?
While not required for application, we strongly encourage you to discuss the program with your supervisor or department chair. Their support will be valuable for your full participation, particularly for the in-person meeting in Alexandria, VA.

The program fee is significantly subsidized for Academy members. Through the AAO-HNSF Physician Leadership Institute led by WittKieffer, Academy members can enroll for $3,250—a significant reduction from the standard $6,250 program fee. When is the in-person meeting?
The in-person meeting will be held on April 13, 2026 at AAO-HNS/F headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia. Specific dates will be confirmed upon acceptance. The program runs from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm (ET) with optional dinner/networking the evening before.
Will sessions be recorded if I can’t attend live?
The virtual sessions (kickoff and seminars) will be recorded for participants who cannot attend live. However, the in-person meeting requires your live attendance, as much of the value comes from interactive workshops and relationship building with your cohort.
Can I balance this program with my clinical responsibilities?
Yes. The program is designed with busy physicians in mind. Most components are virtual and can be scheduled around clinical commitments. The only in-person requirement is one day in April 2026. Many participants find that the leadership skills gained actually improve their efficiency in managing clinical and administrative responsibilities.
