  1. Don’t leave money on the table. Arm yourself with the same numbers employers are using to ensure you are paid fairly.
  2. Have an experienced attorney advocate on your behalf before you sign.
  3. If you are unhappy with your current contract but don’t want to change jobs, talk to an attorney to see if anything can be renegotiated in your contract.
  4. Non-competes are illegal in some states. If you are changing jobs, it’s important to make sure you aren’t violating any of these provisions with the transition. Have an attorney help you understand your obligations for exiting an existing contract.
