2024 Medicare Claims – What We Know Now

The CY 2024 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule implemented a 3.4% cut to physician reimbursement. This cut went into effect on January 1, 2024. While there is still an opportunity for Congress to pass legislation to mitigate this cut, nothing has materialized at this point. Academy staff have participated in several meetings with stakeholders from a variety of specialties to better understand how clinicians should navigate the current state of affairs. The information we are receiving tells us that even in the event of a congressional fix, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) will likely not retroactively reimburse providers based on the new rates. This means that providers who are currently holding claims should go ahead and bill those in order to ensure compliance with timely filing limitations. The Advocacy Team at AAO-HNS is committed to following and communicating any new information as it is made available to us and continues to pressure Congress to pass legislation to mitigate the 3.4% cut.
