In June, the Academy submitted its formal response to a white paper released by the Senate Finance Committee. The committee’s white paper outlined the current challenges with Medicare Part B and the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule (MPFS). It also highlighted potential policy solutions to help address these challenges. The committee sought feedback from stakeholders on these potential policy options.
The Academy’s letter included several of our key recommendations for fixing Medicare physician payment. This includes a yearly inflationary update to the MPFS, reforming the policy of budget neutrality, reestablishing an appeals process for adjusting Relative Value Units, adopting policies to boost Alternative Payment Model participation, and more. The Academy will continue to advocate with the Senate Finance Committee and Congress to create a sustainable Medicare physician payment system that ensures comprehensive access for seniors.
