Academy, Stakeholders Urge Congress to Increase Funding for Federal Tobacco Cessation Program

On March 16, the Academy and a diverse group of stakeholders sent a coalition letter to leaders in the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate calling for increased funding for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Office on Smoking and Health (OSH). To combat the public health threat posed by tobacco use, OSH administers grants to support tobacco prevention and cessation programs and runs a national media campaign to discourage the use of tobacco (Tips from Former Smokers®). Looking ahead, the AAO-HNS will continue its longstanding efforts to address the contemporary public health threat posed by tobacco use.
