Medicare Begins Advance Payment Recoupment

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced that the agency has begun recouping COVID-19 Accelerated and Advance Payments (CAAPs) received by Medicare providers. CAAPs represented an advance of up to three months of Medicare payments to help support physician practices early in the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency. Under the revised repayment terms adopted by Congress last year, repayment begins one year from when the Medicare advance payment was received, rather than 120 days specified under the original terms. Physicians may repay the Medicare advance payment in full at any time by contacting their Medicare Administrative Contractor. However, no action is necessary from providers as the repayment process will begin automatically. Learn More
