April 20, 2026, Alexandria, Virginia—The American Academy of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery Foundation (AAO-HNSF) participated in the 2026 International Congress of Otorhinolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery (ICORL 2026), held April 17–19, 2026, in Goyang, Korea. AAO-HNSF President Gene Brown, MD, RPh, joined colleagues from across the global otolaryngology community in honoring the 100th Congress of the Korean Society of Otorhinolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery (KORL-HNS).
“On behalf of the AAO-HNS/F, I am deeply honored to have joined our Korean colleagues in celebrating its extraordinary leadership, research, and patient care over the past 100 Congresses. The ties between our two societies are built on decades of mutual respect, collaboration, and a shared dedication to advancing otolaryngology worldwide. Being at ICORL 2026 to witness this milestone in person was a privilege I will long remember,” said Dr. Brown during remarks at the ICORL Gala dinner Saturday April 18.
The AAO-HNSF also collaborated on the ICORL 2026 scientific program with a distinguished U.S. faculty member contributing a presentation in head and neck oncology: Victoria Banuchi, MD, Associate Professor, Department of Head and Neck Surgery, Division of Surgery, The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, presented on radiofrequency ablation for recurrent and metastatic thyroid cancer.
In 1999, KORL-HNS became one of the first International Corresponding Societies (ICS) of the AAO-HNSF, establishing a relationship that has spanned more than 25 years. The Academy’s ICS program, which currently includes 80 societies worldwide, connects peer organizations on practice and patient care matters that impact the global otolaryngology community.
About the AAO-HNS/F
The AAO-HNS/F is one of the world’s largest organizations representing specialists who treat the ears, nose, throat, and related structures of the head and neck. Those medical conditions include chronic ear disease, hearing and balance disorders, hearing loss, sinusitis, snoring and sleep apnea, allergies, swallowing disorders, nosebleeds, hoarseness, dizziness, and tumors of the head and neck as well as aesthetic and reconstructive surgery and intricate micro-surgical procedures of the head and neck. The Academy has approximately 13,000 members. The AAO-HNS Foundation works to advance the art, science, and ethical practice of otolaryngology-head and neck surgery through education, research, and quality measurement.
