The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Innovation Request Information on Episode-Based Payment Models

The Academy responded to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Innovation (CMMI) request for information published on July 18 seeking input on a list of topics related to episode-based payment models. CMMI’s questions focused on the elements of successful models, how best to support providers, provider collaboration, and health IT standards. In part, the Academy’s comments stated that consistency and training will be critical to the implementation and success of these payment models. Equal application and treatment of population-based entities and specialists, along with built-in flexibility for patients, are also essential elements of any successful model design.
