I pursued an MD/JD joint degree program to provide a deeper insight into the complex issues that face patient care and health policy today. Having served in this position last year, I actively participated in all council meetings, including the Academy’s BOG Legislative Affairs Committee. I worked closed with Dr. Yolanda Troublefield, Chair of the Committee. Our article, “Supreme Court Finds CMS COVID19 Vaccine Mandate Permissible, Not OSHA,” is currently in the final stages of publication. This article is one example of how my medical-legal background makes me well-suited to synthesize major legislative actions impacting otolaryngology at all levels of government. I enjoy studying these issues and believe continuing in this position fits well with my career interests. I will work to stay up to date on shifts in health policy using various sources I already subscribe to and communicate them effectively to the organization.
